Kappa AlphaMission Statement
Kappa Alpha is aiming to raise over $10,000 this year in honor of our fallen brother, John Torres, who tragically lost his life in 2025. Since then, our chapter has dedicated itself to raising awareness about mental health. Your participation in this event directly helps individuals experiencing mental health crises and supports the JED Foundation, an organization committed to emotional health and suicide prevention among young adults. We are honored to run, remember, and raise awareness in John's name. Thank you for your support, generosity, and prayers.

We are hosting a private memorial 5K on November 16th in Austin, Texas, to honor the life of our brother and close friend, John Torres, who tragically passed away in the summer of 2025. For the first year, we’re keeping the event close to home - welcoming fraternity brothers, close friends, and family members of John. As we look ahead, our mission is to grow this into a public race that continues to spread mental health awareness and positively impact the local community. A heartfelt thank you to the Bryant family for generously opening their home for the starting and ending points of the 5K race. Your support means the world!
Date: November 16th, 10:00 am

John Torres was more than a brother; he was a source of joy, loyalty, and light in the lives of everyone who knew him.
John absolutely loved his dog, Percy. Their bond was something special, filled with loyalty, laughter, and unconditional love. Whether it was a walk around the block or a quiet moment at home, you could always find him smiling, soaking in the simple joys of life. He had a gift for appreciating the little things, and that joy was contagious to everyone around him.
Friends and family never ran out of kind words when speaking about him. His spirit was full of warmth, humor, and a kindness that never seemed to run out. His laughter lit up rooms, and his presence left a lasting impression on anyone lucky enough to cross his path. He truly made the world a better place just by being in it.
His loss reminds us of the importance of standing together, supporting one another, and spreading awareness about mental health and suicide prevention.
